Sanford is a city located in central Florida. The last census that was done in 2010 showed a population of 53,570. Sanford is known as the “Historic Waterfront Gateway City”. It sits in the southern shore of Lake Monroe and was inhabited by Native Americans thousands of years before the city was formed. The Seminoles arrived in the area in the 18th Century after the Jororo Indians were decimated by war and disease inthe 1760’s. Florida was acquired by the U.S. from Spain in 1821, but it’s settlement was delayed by the Seminole Wars. In the year 1913, Sanford became county seat of Seminole County, created from Orange County Florida.
