Choosing the Right Gutter
Gutters come in all shapes, colors, and prices so you can easily find a match for your home or business. The problem is figuring out the right sizes of the gutters & downspouts for your roof. Calculating the right size is not as simple as it looks. It takes a trained gutter technician to be able to be able to calculate the right measurements. That’s why we recommend leaving the calculations to your gutter installation professional.
Let’s talk about the basic types of gutters. There are 2 basic types.
- K-style gutters have flat backs and bottoms and the front side usually has a decorative shape. Ever since the arrival of the seamless gutter machine in the early 70’s, k style gutters account for 80% of all gutter installations. With lower material costs as well as lower labor costs, it’s easy to see why they have become so popular.
- Half-round gutters are just what their name says: half round tubes. These gutters are mainly found on older buildings and historic homes. Round copper gutters bring back a more elegant and traditional look for homes. Aluminum is the most common material used because of its lightweight and durability.
Aluminum gutters will not rust. They come in various colors and can be painted. There are other types of materials used but, with prices ranging from $5 to $9 per linear foot installed, it’s the choice for most homeowners.
